About Us

It all began in a cramped kitchen on the Lower East Side when a friend asked, “Where does the best chaat in Brooklyn live?” The question hung in the air, and none of us could point to a single spot without a wild guess. Rather than settle for a vague answer, a small group of food‑obsessed New Yorkers—each with roots in Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal— decided to map the flavors of their city, one neighborhood at a time. That restless curiosity sparked Sahib NYC in 2019, and the rest of the boroughs soon followed.

Our mission is simple: to celebrate the living tapestry of South Asian cuisine that thrives in every corner of the city, from the modest street stall in Astoria to the hidden family kitchen in Harlem. We document each bite with the same care we’d give a beloved recipe, capturing stories, traditions, and the everyday hustle that makes each dish unique. By shining a light on the neighborhoods that nurture these flavors, we aim to give food explorers the confidence to step off the beaten path and discover the authentic taste of home, wherever they are.

Vision‑wise, we see a New York where every South Asian dish—whether it’s a steaming bowl of ramen‑inspired biryani or a late‑night samosa run—has a place on the city’s culinary map, and where the community that creates it feels seen and celebrated. We’re building a digital kitchen where locals and newcomers alike can share recipes, swap stories, and support the families behind the food, ensuring the culture stays vibrant for generations to come.

From neighborhood walks to kitchen tables, our team continues to chase the next hidden gem, guided by the same question that started it all. If you have a tip, a story, or just want to say hello, head over to our Contact Us page—we’d love to hear from you.
